The town of St. Charles is located about 35 miles west of
Chicago in Kane County, Illinois, just 50 minutes from Chicago
O’Hare International Airport. This small town, with a
population of about 28,000, is nestled in a quiet valley along
the banks of the Fox River and offers residents a variety
of activities and services. St. Charles offers the best of
both worlds to its residents – small town living with
a thriving economy and convenient commutes to Geneva, Elgin,
Aurora, and Chicago.
The streets of St. Charles are filled with national historic
landmarks, quaint shops, and beautiful residential areas.

this town’s many successes is that of the St. Charles
Fire Department, which is ranked among the upper 1% of all

There are a variety of festivals and ways to relax in this
family-oriented community. The Kane County Flea Market has
brought some of the best in antiques and treasures to the
Kane County Fairgrounds and just minutes from downtown is
the Dellora A. Norris Cultural Arts Center, a 1,000-seat theater
and stage for theatrical productions. The Pride of the Fox
RiverFest, held every June, showcases the Mid-America Canoe
Race, Dragon Boat races, and sand sculptures, while the annual
Scarecrow Festival is a fun family event featuring hand-crafted
scarecrows, arts and crafts, and live entertainment.
Residents also enjoy activities such as Paddlewheel riverboat
cruises down the beautiful Fox River or bicycling along the
Great Western Trails of the Fox River Valley. There are 56
parks in the town with facilities for a variety of sports
and activities such as swimming, soccer, gymnastics, and golf.
The St. Charles Park District was awarded the 1998 National
Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management
by the Sports Foundation, Inc. and the National Recreation
and Park Association.
Children of St. Charles attend school in the St. Charles
School District #303, which includes 10 elementary schools,
three middle schools, and two high schools. The district has
a mission to "educate students who will have the competence
and character to excel in the global community as responsible
citizens and life-long learners." Adults can extend their
education by attending one of the many state or private universities
or community colleges located near St. Charles, such as Aurora
University, Northern Illinois University, Judson College,
or Elgin Community College.
